5 SIMPLE TIPS FOR WEEKEND DIET SUCCESS

5 SIMPLE TIPS FOR WEEKEND DIET SUCCESS

After eating healthy and sticking to your exercise regimen all week, it can be hard to resist the allure of weekend indulgences. A busy family schedule may upset your regular eating patterns, and temptation to deviate may strike at any time.

Adopting a few new habits can help you stay on track until Monday morning.

ANTICIPATE TEMPTATIONS

Before going anywhere on the weekend, figure out what the most likely sources of temptation will be.

Were you invited to a friends party on Saturday night? Does chauffeuring the kids to practice put you in the path of every fast food restaurant in town?

Recognizing potential pitfalls before you encounter them will help you devise strategies to deal with them as they come.

Wearing your V-Belt when you are around temptations can help you control how much you eat. The pressure from the V-Belt will help you to feel full faster and will hold your belly in if you do indulge a little bit too much.

ALWAYS BE PREPARED

Start your weekend with the same healthy breakfast that you eat during the week. This not only gets you off on the right foot but also prevents the midmorning hunger that makes you want to stop at the drive-thru while you’re running errands.

On days when you’ll be out of the house for several hours, pack a snack such as fresh vegetables and hummus, raw nuts and dried fruit or a piece of fresh fruit to tide you over.

KNOW YOUR OPTIONS

If you will be going out for a meal over the weekend, check out the restaurant menu online first.

Take note of the dishes that seem healthiest, and call the restaurant if you have any questions about ingredients or nutrition information.

When the time comes to order, start with a big salad and ask that the dressing be left off.

Split your entre in half with a fellow diner or put half of it away in a to-go container before you start eating. Youll have a great meal with only a fraction of the calories found in oversized restaurant portions.

DONT SKIP YOUR WORKOUT

Taking one rest day per week from your regular exercise routine is normal and healthy, but its easy to let that turn into an excuse to lounge around all weekend.

If you find that you tend to feel unmotivated on Saturday and Sunday, continue on with your regular workouts, and move your rest day to sometime during the week.

Engage in other activities, such as taking walks or playing with the kids, throughout the weekend to keep yourself moving.

ALLOW FOR TREATS

Whether its a restaurant dinner or a small helping of your favorite dessert, its okay to have a little treat on the weekend. Pick out what youd like to have in advance, and eat slowly so that you can truly enjoy the experience.

Once you begin putting these new lifestyle habits into practice, youll find that its not hard to stick to your diet on the weekends. Your body will reward you at the start of the week with renewed energy instead of a post-weekend crash, and youll be ready to handle whatever the week has in store.
