Trying to spot reduce this fat with crunches or ab machines ultimately fails because you need to lose overall body fat to reveal a toned stomach. That means engaging in a variety of different exercises to burn fat.
TRUTH:STRENGTH TRAINING + CARDIO IS BEST
Your best bet for fat loss is to balance strength training with cardio to create a regimen that burns calories and builds muscle. Aerobic exercise accomplishes the first goal, especially high-intensity interval training (HIIT).
HIIT sends your heart rate soaring and challenges every part of your body. Weight lifting with a focus on compound movements replaces fat with muscle, resulting in a slimmer, more solid figure. Add in balancing exercises such as yoga that rely on core muscles for even greater strength.
TRUTH: STRESS UNDERMINES YOUR EFFORTS
Your body releases high amounts of cortisol when youre under stress. As a result, blood sugar goes up and you begin to store more fat. Fat storage from stress often goes to the stomach, a problem made worse by the fact that many people also eat more in response to stress.
Give your body a break and chill out with six to eight hours of sleep per night and calming activities such as deep breathing.
